What to Consider When Choosing a Rehab Facility

Choosing a rehab facility is a personal and important choice. It is individual. Which facility will meet your needs depends a lot on what you or your loved one expects and what you or they are hoping to get out of recovery. For example, if you or your loved one are spiritual, then a rehab facility that does not include any spiritual guidance may not be the best fit.

No matter what, though, choosing a rehab facility is not an easy decision. There are a lot of criteria that must be considered. Here is a handy checklist to help you or your loved one figure out what you should be looking for in the right recovery center. Remember, a facility should be open and eager to answer all your questions regarding these topics:

Cost

Find out if the stay will be covered by insurance. Many companies will work with a Joint Commission Accredited facility, such as Clarity Way. Discuss your financial situation to see what all your options may be.

Location

Location includes many different variables. Ask yourself if you want:

  • A city location or one in the country?
  • A facility close to home, where family may visit, or something far away, where you may concentrate on your recovery without worrying about what is going on at home?
  • A warm climate or a cool one?
  • A 12-Step vs. Holistic Program

The 12-step program has been around for decades, and nearly everyone is familiar with the tenets of this approach. These principles act as a guide during addiction recovery, and many people do well with this method. But 12-step programs are not the only option. Holistic recovery centers offer treatments for the body, mind, and spirit, incorporating a wide variety of ideas and influences.

Types of Therapies Offered

Each facility offers different types of therapy. Individual and group therapy remain standard for most facilities. Others you may want to consider include:

  • Neurotherapy
  • Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing
  • Music therapy
  • Art therapy
  • Family therapy
  • Inpatient and Outpatient Programs

Inpatient programs, where clients stay for a period of time at the facility, is more structured and intensive than an outpatient program, where clients receive treatment while still living at home. They are entirely different experiences.

Extended and Short-Term Rehab

Many facilities have both longer and shorter options for rehab. The best choice depends on you or your loved one’s needs. While the average stay lasts 30 to 60 days, this may not be right for you or your loved one. Consider, too, that those preferences may change once rehab has begun, so look for flexibility.

The Right Rehab Center

The right rehab center will offer many choices and will work with you or your loved one to design the optimal program. Contact Clarity Way today to learn more about our options.
