We recognize that some people don’t relate to traditional 12-step approaches. At Clarity Way treatment center, we meet clients where they are, helping them discover what works best for their individual recovery path. We provide 12-step options as well as alternatives such as the BRENDA approach, Refuge Recovery, Stages of Change and SMART Recovery®.
Our non 12-step approaches provide clients a high level of control over their recovery, involving them in key decisions about their treatment plan. They collaborate closely with their therapist to identify therapies and activities that align with their individual goals, interests and needs. We also work with them to customize an aftercare program that allows us to remain a major contributor to their recovery long after they leave our facility. Call 888-879-1289 to learn more.
Our non-12-step approaches include:
The Stages of Change model helps professionals, clients and their loved ones understand addiction and motivation to change. With specialized training in the Stages of Change model, our clinicians assess where a client is in terms of their readiness to stop their addictive behaviors and remain sober. They then work with clients to choose and implement treatments that are best suited to their needs.
This integrated, empirically based framework utilizes cognitive behavioral therapy and medication, as appropriate, and builds treatment around an initial biopsychosocial assessment. The BRENDA approach focuses on improving the biological, psychological and social areas of functioning that have been impacted by addiction.
BRENDA is an acronym for the six components that comprise this evidence-based approach:
B – Biopsychosocial evaluation
R – Report to the client on assessment
E – Empathetic understanding of the client’s issue
N – Needs expressed by the client are addressed
D – Direct advice on how to meet those needs
A – Assessing client’s responses and behaviors to advice and adjusting treatment recommendations
SMART Recovery® is a non-spiritual, non-step, self-empowering addiction recovery support group. SMART is an acronym for: Self-Management and Recovery Training. Clients who participate in our onsite SMART Recovery® support groups engage in supportive, educational meetings and evidence-based psychological treatments and medications, as appropriate, while following a four-point program that includes building and maintaining motivation; coping with urges; managing thoughts, feelings and behaviors; and living a balanced life.
Refuge Recovery is a nontheistic, Buddhist approach to recovery that integrates mindfulness practices. This recovery approach draws on teachings from the Four Noble Truths and emphasized empathy and knowledge as key to healing from addiction and underlying issues.
We recognize that spirituality carries different meanings for each individual. Rather than endorse a particular form of spirituality, we support all clients in their quest to develop a deeper level of spirituality that aligns with their belief systems. Clients have opportunities to engage in mindfulness practices such as meditation groups and yoga, as well as outings to local religious services on the weekend.
